| The Transit has been the best-selling light commercial vehicle in Europe for 40 years, and in some countries the term “Transit” has passed into common usage as a generic term applying to any light commercial van. Over 5,000,000 Transits have been produced since 1965. DER Television Rentals was founded in 1938 as Thorn Rentals and was re-branded DER. From 1968 onwards, DER was merged into Radio Rentals to become the world’s largest TV rental firm. In 1998 Thorn plc was acquired by Nomura’s Finance Group.
