| The Sapphire body was originally chosen for the Cosworth treatment, because it was both the lightest and most torsionally rigid in the Sierra range. The two wheel drive version was announced in November 1987, but by then rallying was a sport that was dominated by four wheel drive cars, so the 4x4 version was announced in February 1990. A brilliant allrounder, it could successfully be a businessman’s leather-equipped express, a family car, or a road-racing hooligan!
