14th FG were activated 15 January 1942, they flew P-38s to the United Kingdom via the northern ferry route. They fought with the 12th Air Force in North Africa and later with the 15th Air Force in Italy on bomber escort duties. Col. Taylor kept his P-38J with the 49th FS during his time as CO of the 14th FG. There is no record that he scored any victories in this particular fighter, although Wilson H Oldhouse claimed an FW 190 while flying it on 11th June 1944. Taylor was struck down with polio and transferred out of the group on 17th July, command being transferred to Col. Daniel Campbell. Released: December 2007
