| Description

Hawker Hurricane MkI, V7434 DZ-R, flown by Pilot Officer Irving Smith, No.151 Squadron, Digby, October 1940

No.151 Squadron received its first Hurricanes in December 1938. After serving defensive patrols in the opening chapters of World War Two the Squadron went on to cover the evacuation fleet at Dunkirk and flew missions over Northern France during May and June 1940. Pilot Officer Irving ‘Black’ Smith from New Zealand joined the Squadron in July 1940 and quickly became involved in the Battle of Britain during which he scored six kills. Smith went on to play a leading role in Operation Jericho, the RAF’s historic raid on the German prison at Amiens in February 1944, during which he piloted a de Havilland Mosquito IV. This model is a brand new Corgi tooling developed using CAD for a high degree of accuracy and detail.

Great Hurricane Model

I bought this from a local model shop. I am very happy with the model and the paint scheme looks great. The landing gear was easy to attach and it now has pride of place in my collection.

Recall Required

I'm of the view if the casting isn't accurate then the model needs recalling and replacing. I'm sure Corgi have stringent QA procedures in place....! (owner of some 70+ Corgi Aviation items!).

Corgi Says...

22/10/2015

Hi G4WJH, thank you for adding your review. While we do agree a small piece of detail could be added to the tail, the tooling itself is correct and the model is a good representation of the Hurricane. However, if you aren’t happy with the model please contact your place of purchase immediately as you may be able to return it as unwanted.

A lovely Hawker Hurricane model which could of been perfect.

Generally a great accurate release and a improvement on the old model in many areas of the old Corgi Hawker Hurricane Mk1. However as already mentioned the Rudder detail is a bit of an Oops error! Unforgivable really.. Another minor problem is the aerial is slightly overlarge for me.But easily remedied in future? The colours are spot on and the general detail. I like the gun ports which are recessed into the casting rather than just printed on as with the older models. The Light on the leading edge of the wings are clear parts and are a pretty good. Its a 7.5/10 for me.
I hope a Sqn L Pete Brothers or Archie McKellar -Top scoring Hurricane BOB Ace will come out and hopefully a Sqn Leader Marmaduke 'Pat' Prattle in 'Hurri over Greece' - Highest Scoring Allied Ace and arguably best underated forgotten Allied 'Ace of Aces' of WW2 will be done.... Read more
