Announcement - First London 2012 Collectable goes on sale

The first ever London 2012 collectable – a limited edition replica London bus - will go on sale on 31st October 2009, as part of the celebrations to mark exactly 1000 days to go until the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games.  The bus is a copy of the red London bus which featured in London 2012's handover segment in the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Created by London 2012 licensee Corgi, the 1:76 scale replica bus will go on sale for the first time at Hamley's toy store in London priced at £29.99.  Only 5,000 have been made and each comes with a certificate of authenticity.

London 2012's handover segment in the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games followed the official handover of the Olympic flag to the Mayor London from the Mayor of Beijing.  The performance featured a unique dance collaboration between hip hop dance group Zoo Nation, contemporary dance group CanDoCo and dancers from the Royal Opera House; the dramatic appearances of singer Leona Lewis and guitarist Jimmy Page on high rising elevators emerging from within the bus performing a specially arranged version of Led Zeppelin classic 'A Whole Lotta Love' and David Beckham who invited the world to London by kicking a football into the crowd of athletes.

The bus collectable will also be on sale in available Hamleys, Harrods, Modelzone, corgi.co.uk and major Hobby & Collectable Stores. Further London 2012 licensed toys and collectables will go on sale from 2010.
