On Saturday 17th October, 2009, Yorkshire Air Museum hosted a superb aviation enthusiast day entitled ‘Target Falklands’. The focus of the event was a lecture presentation by veterans of the 1982 Falklands Campaign. Barry Neale (Victor K2 Tanker) and Martin Withers (Vulcan Bomber) talked of their personal involvement in the famous ‘Black Buck’ raids and the bombing of Port Stanley airfield. John Kennedy then described hi s experiences flying the legendary Chinook helicopter, ‘Bravo November’ – the only Chinook to survive the sinking of the Atlantic Conveyor, and is still in service today.
Perhaps the icing on the cake was the attendance of Lieutenant Commander Dave Morgan . Dave was a hugely successful Sea Harrier pilot during the Falklands campaign, where he was based on HMS Hermes.
During the event Paul Lumsdon - Corgi’s Design and Development Manager – proudly presented Dave with two of Corgi’s HMS Hermes Diorama Sets (AA39901). Dave signed the take-off ramp of each diorama and these will be sold to help raise funds towards the running of the Museum.
Other attractions on the day were a Corgi diecast aviation display, Aviation Gallery sales, International Plastic Modellers Society display and also the opportunity to sit in the cockpits of the Harrier GR3 and Mirage III. The veterans were also on hand all afternoon to answer questions and to sign books, pictures etc
