About the Model
AA38601 - BAC TSR-2, XR219, Flying Prototype, 1964, RRP £82.99
Corgi’s Aviation Archive range moves into the jet age with the BAC TSR-2. The Tactical Strike/Reconnaissance 2 was developed during the Cold War in the early 1960s. XR219, modelled to exact 1:72 scale, was the only prototype to fly. Arguably at the time the most technically advanced aircraft in the world, the TSR-2 project was controversially axed by Harold Wilson’s Labour Government later that same year. All the prototypes and tooling were then marked for destruction. Although two TSR-2s survived, XR219 ended up at Shoeburyness Range, Essex, where it was used as target practice.
Martyn Weaver, Marketing Manager at Corgi, said: “We are proud to be releasing a die cast replica of the TSR-2 which was arguably the most famous Post War British aircraft that never actually made active military service.”
