Exclusive to Corgi Direct
One man's crisis is another's opportunity
Prestons of Potto was established in 1936 as an agricultural contracting business by Richard Preston Snr, using steam engines for threshing and wood-sawing duties.
During the Suez Crisis in 1957 a local brick manufacturer, who had a fleet of lorries, was running very short of diesel so, with two 10 ton trailers purchases, the Lightning II hauled 20 tons of bricks from Darlington to Ampleforth for four months and the rest is history.
Today, over half a century later, Prestons have an extensive fleet, large warehousing and a loyal workforce, and have grown to become one of the most widely recognised family businesses in the British logistics industry.
This Burrell launched the Prestons of Potto's road haulage career in the 1950s. It was the last engine to work commercially and is resplendent in the unique verdine green livery markings of its first owner's Irish connections.
This exquisite piece is exclusive to Corgi Direct customers and will be the only new steam model that Corgi will release in 2009.The Corgi Vintage Glory of Steam range represents a collection of nostalgic models from bygone days of steam transport and features legendary names like Foden, Burrell, Fowler and Garrett.
