The original Sierra RS Cosworth caused a sensation when it was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1983 and, when deliveries finally commenced almost a year later, lucky buyers realized it was if anything even better than the hype.  Designed with Group A motorsport in mind, meaning at least 5,000 examples had to be produced for homologation, Ford were initially caught out by the enormous demand for a car which, though ferociously quick, was also a docile, comfortable and practical, family car, as happy in traffic as on the race track.  At only £15,950 it was also something of a bargain.
