Bristol Lodekka FS Central SMT Glasgow 240 Lanark
Product Code: OM40818B
In 1926, the Glasgow General Omnibus Company was formed in Hamilton. Later in 1930, the Company was taken over by the (LMS) but a re-structuring in 1932 meant a change of name to Central SMT Co Ltd. LMS and LNER both became part of the new British Railways and SMT sold its bus interests to the British Transport Commission and the bus operations thereby entered state ownership.
The first of the revolutionary Bristol Lodekka double-deckers arrived in 1955. Central was unusual in that it operated many variants of the Lodekka. The Lodekka was the quintessential Central bus of the 1960s until the Leyland Leopard took on that mantle in the late 1970s.
