McRae proved his talent by competing to a high level in other forms of motor sport during 2004 and 2005, finishing 3rd in class in the 2004 Le Mans 24 Hour race driving a GTS Ferrari F550. However, he was keen to rejoin the WRC and made a return to the sport at his home event aboard the Skoda Fabia modelled here. Reunited with Nicky Grist, Colin put in over 800 kilometres of testing in order to get up to speed after 18 months away from rallying. They were soon on the pace and posted some impressive stage times on the way to a solid 7th place.
